What makes the Legacy Core Different?
At its “core” this device is almost exactly the same as the pro 2 in terms of draw resistance, flavor, and vapor performance. If you want a pro 2 without some of the “nice to haves” but want to save some money and get some cool, fun, colors, then this is the device for you. The core is exactly the same in terms of performance as the pro 2 but it comes in three colors, white, rose gold, and green. I always enjoy when devices have unique color ways as opposed to the typical black we usually see. My Airvape Legacy Core is white.
The legacy core is cheaper than the pro by just about 45-50$ at the time of writing this depending on the sale(s) you may take advantage of. They achieve these savings by stripping some of the “bells and whistles” that the pro 2 has off while retaining some of the very important things that make a legacy pro such a great device. They took the OLED screen off of it and replaced it with small, circular, leds (which in my opinion is actually an improvement for some…especially newbies), and they also removed the wireless charging capabilities.
You get some fun options for changing out the fabric on the device which is really cool. I do want to make a comment on the fabric as compared to the pro 2. I feel that the fabric they use on the core is really nice and I personally feel like it’s a bit of an improvement compared to its big brother, the pro 2. I love that you can swap them out (but I have not tested doing this) for customization and personalization, but honestly, you don’t really need to do that…the fabric on it has a very premium feel and adheres nicely to the device without coming off.
Performance
I genuinely enjoy this little device. I get excellent vapor from it with an easy and smooth draw and it extracts my herb quite nicely. The flavor really comes through nicely and at this price point, it’s one of the stronger contenders in this category. In fact, based on price to performance, I would actually recommend this device over most other prices in this category and a category above. I hate to use a cliche phrase, but this thing really punches above its weight class in every respect. It’s stupid simple to use and just works well right out of the box. I would actually recommend this device over a veazy or even a Lobo. It’s that good!
Features
The Airvape Legacy Core delivers its classic clam shell design with all the same quality of life improvements found on the Legacy Pro 2 like improved airflow and cleaning path, removable battery, glass vapor path, magnetic screen, and removable mouthpiece while delivering solid vapor quality and ease of use. It has USB-C charging and charges to full relatively quickly. I’m averaging about 10 or more sessions per charge and I can hot swap out 1650 batteries with ease if I need more juice thanks to the swap-able battery. It heats up in about 20-30 seconds and can also do concentrates (but in my opinion, it’s best to get a dedicated concentrate device like this instead). Overall, this thing has plenty of the features you need while eliminating the features you don’t need. It’s truly a “core” device.
Heating
The Airvape Legacy Core heats up quickly as stated above in about 20-30 seconds. It uses hybrid heating which is both convection and conduction (this is usually reserved for much pricier devices). When choosing your temperature, you are simply looking at LED dots on the side of the device and each dot is an increase of about 10 degrees. I actually like these dots a lot because you don’t get “temperature anxiety” as I like to call it. It’s simple…more dots lit up means higher temperature and I think that works great for new people or people who just want simplicity.
Drawbacks
I don’t have many drawbacks to mention here, but one drawback is just the clam shell design. It’s not terribly easy to load without things getting a little messy. Having said that, using a scoop or some sort of loading tool fixes any issues I may have had with the design of this bad boy.
Who is the Legacy Core for?
The Legacy Core is a killer little device at a really solid price point and as such, I would recommend this as a first dry herb vaporizer. I say this because this device is not intimidating at all. I work at a dispensary in a medical market and I’m constantly trying to tell my patients about dry herb vaping but the second they see a device with a bunch of buttons and a screen, their minds instantly think “complicated”. That is just not the case with this device as evidenced by my wife. She doesn’t like having to learn about a new device and its features and quirks. For her, having to work at making a device work is not fun and she just wants to drop some herb in, turn it on and enjoy without having to mess around with menus and other things. This device delivers that perfectly. If she wants more vapor, she just turns up the heat one dot more on the LED and it delivers. The color, and ease of use all contribute to the legacy core being one of the least intimidating devices around. The Legacy Core will be a device I recommend to almost every patient I get as a great first time device. The price sets it in that sweet spot of “I’m investing in a nice device but I’m not dropping more than 155$ on it” and that will go a LONG way for a lot of people getting into dry herb vaping!
Conclusion
I believe this is one of the better devices for the price range after using the airvape legacy core for a few weeks every night, I can confidently say that this fun little vaporizer is going to get a LOT of use both at home and on the go. I fear I may never get it back from my wife, however. If you want a simple and unintimidating device for a first timer, or you are looking for a portable device to take around with you, I believe the airvape legacy core may just be the device you are looking for!
